Using the Prescription Drug List
(You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print some of the items on this page.)
Your prescription benefit gives you and your doctor many choices. Understanding them will help you make more informed decisions about your health care. It will also help you ask your doctor or pharmacist the right questions about your medications. We want you to make the most of your coverage!
What is a Prescription Drug List?
A prescription drug list is a list of medications that an independent panel of doctors and pharmacists has chosen for their clinical value and cost-effectiveness. With our prescription drug list, you and your doctor have the freedom to choose the medication that works best for you. Since there may be more than one drug available for your medical condition, we encourage you to use generic and preferred name-brand drugs whenever possible. This will help manage your prescription costs.
Please note: The BlueChoice HealthPlan Prescription Drug List is subject to change without notice at any time during the year without prior notice to members or physicians.
What If Your Drug is Not On the List?
If your drug is not on the prescription drug list, members can log into My Insurance Manager and click on My Pharmacy Manager. Use the drug look-up feature and enter the name of your non-preferred drug. You'll then see a list of generic and preferred brand-name drugs that may be alternatives you can use. Please talk to your doctor to see if one of the alternatives will work for you. You and your doctor may also find that an over-the-counter medicine may be the most appropriate treatment for you, and may cost you less.
