Great Expectations® Quit Smoking

BlueChoice HealthPlan understands it’s hard to stop smoking. Nicotine is a highly addictive drug, and many people find they need help quitting tobacco. Great Expectations® Quit Smoking can help you kick the habit. We provide information and resources to support you as you become tobacco-free.

You can take advantage of the Smoking and Tobacco Self-Care Center, filled with articles, self-assessments and links to useful websites. This information is courtesy of Caremark, an independent company that offers health education information on behalf of BlueChoice HealthPlan. You can also access information about the South Carolina Tobacco Quitline, a great, free resource for members who live in South Carolina. Or use this county-by-county listing of hospital-based programs that teach in-person quit smoking classes. And if you’re interested in using medication to help you in the quitting process, check out the prescription drugs and nicotine patches that are now covered under your BlueChoice HealthPlan prescription benefits.

And now, we are teaming up with the American Institute for Preventive Medicine (AIPM) to offer you the chance to join its Smokeless® program. AIPM is an independent company that produces health management programs and materials. When you participate in the Smokeless program, you have unlimited access to a quit coach to walk you through the program and support you every step of the way.

You will also get a comprehensive kit that includes:

  • A CD to guide you through the program. The CD also includes relaxation exercises to help you manage stress.
  • Seven informational booklets, including helpful hints about staying on track.
  • A log sheet to record your smoking habits.
  • Tips to help you survive your first days without nicotine.
  • A Nicotine Dependency Survey to help you and your doctor decide if nicotine replacement therapy or prescription medication is right for you. (You can participate in the Smokeless program with or without these options.)

Any member, age 18 or older, can enroll. The cost is $15 (or $5 for those already enrolled in another disease management program). For more information or to enroll in the Smokeless program, log in to My Health Toolkit®. Select "Great Expectations" from the Health and Wellness menu.
