BlueChoice HealthPlan understands that it’s hard to stop smoking. Nicotine is a highly addictive drug and many people find they need help quitting tobacco. Great Expectations®† Quit Smoking can help members kick the habit. We provide information and resources to support members as they become tobacco-free.
Members can take advantage of the Smoking and Tobacco Self-Care Center, filled with articles, self-assessments and links to useful Web sites. They can also access information about the South Carolina Tobacco Quitline, a great, free resource for members who live in South Carolina. Or use this county-by-county listing of hospital-based programs that teach in-person quit smoking classes. And if they’re interested in using medication to help them in the quitting process, they can check out the prescription drugs and nicotine patches that are now covered under their BlueChoice HealthPlan prescription benefits.
And now, we are teaming up with the American Institute for Preventive Medicine (AIPM) to offer members the chance to join its Smokeless ®†† program. AIPM is an independent company that produces health management programs and materials. When members participate in the Smokeless program, they have unlimited access to a quit coach to walk them through the program and support hem every step of the way.
- A CD to guide them through the program. The CD also includes relaxation exercises to help them manage stress.
- Seven informational booklets, including helpful hints about staying on track.
- A log sheet to record their smoking habits.
- Tips to help them survive their first days without nicotine.
- A Nicotine Dependency Survey to help members and their doctor decide if nicotine replacement therapy or prescription medication is right for them. (They can participate in the Smokeless program with or without these options.)
Members will also get a comprehensive kit that includes:
Any member, age 18 or older, may enroll. The cost is $15 (or $5 for those already enrolled in another disease management program).
