BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and BlueChoice HealthPlan Introduce Clinical Attachments

3/27/2015

As part of our ongoing effort to ensure an easier precertification process, we are announcing our new clinical attachments feature. This enhancement will save you the time and money you would usually spend mailing or faxing clinical attachments. It allows you to upload medical records for pending precertification requests through My Insurance ManagerSM.

So how does the feature work? Simply request a new precertification through My Insurance Manager for a BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina or BlueChoice HealthPlan member. From the clinical documentation page, attach a PDF of the medical records or files to support the request.

Once you upload the document, it will encrypt automatically. When we confirm the precertification request, our internal staff of precertification technicians and nurses will work closely to review the request. They will authorize your patients’ procedures as quickly as possible. You can also upload clinical attachments for existing precertification requests that we have not yet approved.

Our system will accept up to 10 PDF documents created in Adobe® Acrobat version 1.3 or higher per request. There is a maximum file size of 30 MB per document.

See our clinical attachments user guide for more details.

Please contact Provider Education for information about this bulletin or clinical attachments at provider.education@bcbssc.com or call 803-264-4730.
