Federal Employee Program (FEP) Dental Updates

Federal Employee Program (FEP) Dental Updates

December 31, 2015

Effective Jan. 1, 2016, some dental benefits under the FEP will change. Here are details of those changes.

  • Fluoride varnish is now available to children through age 5 (two per calendar year) when performed by a preferred primary care provider. This benefit aligns with the recommendations provided by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). USPSTF is an independent organization that offers health information on behalf of BlueChoice HealthPlan. Please note that fluoride varnish services performed by a dentist will be subject to regular dental benefits.
  • Dental coverage for Standard Option members will only include coverage for evaluations, diagnostic imaging, palliative treatment and preventive care.
  • The copayment for dental care services for Basic Option members will increase to $30.

You can find additional information about these new changes through FEP’s website, www.fepblue.org or you can contact FEP Provider Services at 888-930-2345
