Using the Prescription Drug List

Using the Prescription Drug List

Your company's prescription benefit gives your employees and their doctor many choices. Understanding them will help your employees make more informed decisions about their health care. It will also help them ask their doctor or pharmacist the right questions about their medications. We want your employees to make the most of their coverage!

What Is a Prescription Drug List?

A prescription drug list is a list of medications that an independent panel of doctors and pharmacists has chosen for their clinical value and cost-effectiveness. With our prescription drug list, your employees and their doctor have the freedom to choose the medication that works best for them. Since there may be more than one drug available for a medical condition, we encourage members to use lower-tier drugs whenever possible. This will help manage prescription costs.

Please note: The Tiered Prescription Drug List and the BlueChoice HealthPlan Prescription Drug List are subject to change at any time during the year without prior notice to members or physicians.

What If Your Drug Is Not on the List?

Your employees can use the drug lookup tool to search for information on a specific drug. This link leads to a third party website. That party is solely responsible for the content and privacy policies on its site. OptumRx is an independent company that provides pharmacy benefit management services on behalf of BlueChoice HealthPlan. For personal information about prescription drug coverage, log in to My Health Toolkit®.
